由来与背景
Tokushima City's summer Bon dance festival. Its history and highlights are covered in our evergreen guide; this page focuses on 2027 dates, tickets and planning.
Awa Odori 2027 in Tokushima City is expected to run Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 August 2027, with the outdoor paid dance arenas (sajiki grandstands) on Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 August and an indoor stage show only on the 11th. The organising committee and Tokushima City both describe the festival as running "every year from 11 to 15 August", but the 2027 dates, prices and ticket sale dates have not been announced yet (checked 2026-10-14). This page lines up the 2027 calendar with what actually happened in 2026 — times, seat prices and how tickets were sold — so you can lock in a hotel and transport early. For the festival's background see our Awa Odori (Tokushima) guide, and for how 2026 grandstand tickets worked see Awa Odori 2026 tickets.

The 2027 column combines the official "11 to 15 August every year" pattern with the 2027 calendar, in which 11 August falls on a Wednesday and 15 August on a Sunday. It is an expectation, not an announcement; we will update this page when the committee publishes the 2027 schedule.
11 August or 12 August? Why you see both
Search results give two different start dates, and both come from official sources.
- The organisers and Tokushima City say "every year from 11 to 15 August, five days". That counts the whole festival, including the indoor stage show on the 11th.
- The Tokushima Prefecture FAQ says the outdoor dance arenas (sajiki) are set up in central Tokushima "every year from 12 to 15 August, four days", and that the 11th is an indoor show at Asty Tokushima (formerly called the eve festival).
So if what you want is the famous night-time street dancing, the nights that matter are 12–15 August. If you also want the indoor showcase of selected troupes, arrive on the 11th. In 2027, the 12th is a Thursday, the 14th a Saturday and the 15th a Sunday, so expect the two weekend nights to be the busiest. Book accommodation early.
What the paid arenas cost in 2026
In 2026 the three outdoor paid arenas were Sansan Aibahama, Awagin Minami-uchimachi and Bal Konyamachi, each with two separately ticketed parts per night. Only the second part at Konyamachi on 13 August was entirely unreserved seating.
| Seat type (2026, advance, tax included) | Price |
|---|---|
| Special seats (reserved, Minami-uchimachi only) | ¥15,000 |
| SS (reserved) | ¥6,000 |
| S (reserved) | ¥3,000 |
| A (reserved) | ¥2,500 |
| B (reserved) | ¥2,000 |
| C (unreserved) | ¥1,000 |
Everyone aged 3 and over needs a ticket; children under 3 watch on a parent's lap. The indoor "Matsuribi" shows at Awagin Hall were ¥4,500 (SS), ¥3,500 (S) and ¥2,800 (A), and the "Suguribi" show at Asty Tokushima was ¥5,000 (special reserved), ¥3,800 (S) and ¥2,800 (A). Treat these as a guide to 2027, not as 2027 prices.
How tickets were sold in 2026
- Web presale: noon on Saturday 13 June to 23:59 on Sunday 21 June 2026. Tokushima City noted that seats could be chosen in the presale.
- General sale: from 10:00 on 1 July 2026, through Ticket Pia and the official website.
- Where to buy: the Ticket Pia website and the official Awa Odori website.
If you care about where you sit, the presale window is what to watch for in 2027. We will add the 2027 dates as soon as they are published.
Watching and dancing for free
You do not need a ticket to enjoy Awa Odori. There are free dance arenas outside the paid arenas, and the official site promotes niwaka-ren, drop-in dance groups that visitors can join. Buy a seat if you want to sit facing the troupes as they dance through a paid arena; otherwise walk the free areas and soak up the atmosphere.
Planning your stay and getting around
The organisers and the city say more than one million visitors from Japan and abroad come to Tokushima during the festival. The dancing takes place in central Tokushima City, and each summer the official site publishes temporary parking, shuttle bus, coach pre-booking and extra public-transport information. 2027 road closures and parking are not announced yet (checked 2026-10-14), so if you plan to drive, wait for the official parking page before fixing your plans.

常见问题
- When is Awa Odori 2027?
- The 2027 dates have not been officially announced yet (checked 2026-10-14). The organising committee and Tokushima City both describe the festival as running "every year from 11 to 15 August", so if that pattern holds, Awa Odori 2027 runs Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 August 2027, with the outdoor paid dance arenas on 12–15 August and an indoor stage show only on the 11th.
- Does Awa Odori start on 11 or 12 August?
- Both appear in official sources. 11 August is an indoor stage performance (held at Asty Tokushima in 2026); the street dancing in the outdoor arenas runs 12–15 August, as the Tokushima Prefecture FAQ puts it. If you want the night-time street dancing, plan to be in Tokushima from the 12th.
- When do Awa Odori 2027 tickets go on sale?
- Not announced yet. For 2026, a seat-selection web presale ran from noon on 13 June to 23:59 on 21 June via Ticket Pia and the official site, followed by general sale from 10:00 on 1 July. Watch the official site for the 2027 announcement around the same season.
- How much are Awa Odori grandstand seats?
- 2027 prices are not announced. In 2026 the outdoor paid arenas charged ¥1,000 (C, unreserved), ¥2,000 (B), ¥2,500 (A), ¥3,000 (S), ¥6,000 (SS) and ¥15,000 for the special seats sold only at Minami-uchimachi (advance, tax included; ages 3 and up need a ticket).
- Can I watch Awa Odori for free?
- Yes. Besides the paid arenas there are free dance arenas in the city, and the official site promotes niwaka-ren, the drop-in groups that let visitors dance. A ticket only buys you a seat facing the troupes as they parade through a paid arena.
