亮点

  • Thousands of giant hand-made washi-and-bamboo streamers along the central arcades
  • The seven traditional decorations (nanatsu kazari), each with its own meaning
  • Fireworks the night before (Aug 5, ~16,000 shots) and food stalls at Kotodai Park

由来与背景

Tanabata is the star festival of Orihime (the Weaver) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd), who meet once a year across the Milky Way; Sendai's edition traces to Date Masamune in the early Edo period and, held in August by the old lunar calendar, is one of the Three Great Festivals of Tohoku.

温馨提示

Come early on Aug 6 for the coolest, least-crowded arcades; come the evening of Aug 5 if you also want the fireworks. It's free — just bring cash for the food stalls.
