Getting there and tickets

Kanda Matsuri has no ticket and no gate -- the mikoshi processions move through public streets and anyone can watch for free. Kanda Myojin Shrine is a 5-minute walk from JR Ochanomizu Station (Chuo/Sobu Line) via the Hijiribashi exit, or about 7 minutes from Akihabara Station's Denki-gai exit; Tokyo Metro's Shin-Ochanomizu and Suehirocho stations are also roughly 5 minutes away.

Practical tips

If the mid-May honmatsuri weekend pattern holds, plan to be in the Kanda/Akihabara area on both the Saturday and Sunday to catch both the Shinkosai procession and the Mikoshi Miyairi -- they pass through different neighborhoods. Streets around the shrine get tightly packed on both days, so arrive early for a clear view. Kanda Myojin is also a well-known stop for engineers and IT workers, who buy its "IT Johou Anzen Shugo" charm (around ¥1,000) said to protect computers from viruses and crashes -- and for anime fans, since the shrine appears as a filming location in Love Live! and sells tie-in charms.
