Destacados

  • About 850 deep-pink Kawazu-zakura trees line a 4km riverside walk between Mine Bridge and Hama Bridge (roughly a 45-minute stroll end to end)
  • Evening illumination lights sections of the blossom-lined river after dark
  • The circa-70-year-old original Kawazu-zakura tree still stands near the town hall, plus riverside food stalls selling local mikan, wasabi and seafood

Origen e historia

Kawazu-zakura began with a single wild sapling found by Kawazu resident Katsumi Iida beside the Kawazu River in 1955; it first bloomed in his garden from 1966, was identified as a new natural hybrid, and was officially named 'Kawazu-zakura' in 1974 -- it became Kawazu's official town tree in 1975 and the original tree, now about 70 years old, still stands.

Bueno saber

Official 2027 dates weren't announced as of July 2026 -- Kawazu Zakura Matsuri traditionally ran a fixed Feb 10-Mar 10 window, but as blooming has trended earlier, recent editions opened Feb 1 (2024 and 2025) or Feb 7 (2026) and ran into early-mid March, so this page uses Feb 6-Mar 7, 2027 as a working estimate; confirm on the official site (kawazuzakura.jp) closer to the date. Bring cash for the riverside food stalls, and drivers should budget ¥1,000 for parking.
